Montair is classified as a leukotriene receptor antagonist (anti-asthmatic medication). It inhibits the effects of specific natural substances (leukotrienes) that contribute to asthma and allergies. This helps facilitate easier breathing by diminishing inflammation in the airways.
Montair (Montelukast) is utilized to manage and alleviate symptoms in individuals with asthma by preventing the narrowing of the airways. The active component of these tablets is known as a leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA). It operates throughout the body and has a dual mechanism of action, functioning both as an anti-inflammatory agent and a bronchodilator.
Leukotrienes are inflammatory eicosanoids created by the immune system. They attach to receptors in the airways, leading to inflammation in the lungs and airways, as well as increased mucus production in asthma patients. By blocking leukotriene D4 from acting on the CysLT1 receptor, the medicine prevents leukotrienes from constricting the airways, which would cause them to narrow. This results in better breathing and helps to manage asthma. This treatment has been administered as an alternative to corticosteroids or to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasms. When other medications do not adequately control asthma, some physicians may suggest these tablets for symptom management.
Montair may cause side effects such as: fluid retention, nausea, vomiting, nosebleeds, unusual weakness or tiredness, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, upper respiratory infections, and disorientation.
